Tap into the energy of microorganisms inside the earth's soil. What do these bacteria inside of land say to us? Dirt DJ shares artistic methods for harvesting alternative energy that heightens human awareness of other species. Layering geological research on coal histories, oral histories with residents on energy in the Ruhr area and connecting power circuits with imaginative thinking form this radio program.
How can we live synergistically together with currents flowing through the earth? bacilli (James Jack, Yoshitaka Nanjo & Shotaro Yoshino) is an artist collective formed in 2014 based in the archipelago of Japan with the aim tonurture active spaces for living with dirt, history, people, food, microbes and spirits. Through artistic engagement with earth, they build hopeful models for how we can live in co-habitation with more than human life. This work is made in collaboration with Jevon Chandra.

Forum Pixelache × Lumbung Radio
"Our current situation—sustainability through collective action"
This forum was held over two days, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd, 2025, in a hybrid format combining in-person attendance at the MUU Helsinki Centre for Contemporary Art (KAPELITEHDAS) and online streaming. Organized in collaboration with Pixelache and Lumbung Radio, the event adopted a forum format, bringing together invited guests and participants to discuss the complex crises facing contemporary society.
The topics of discussion included a range of issues such as the rise of the far right in Europe, the urgent challenges surrounding climate change, resource over-extraction (extractivism), perpetually unstable employment conditions, and cuts to social welfare programs. The discussion examined from multiple perspectives how these issues are interconnected and how they affect our daily lives and social structures.
A distinctive feature of this forum was the practice of conducting radio broadcasts simultaneously with the discussions. Through the act of "sharing a space together and broadcasting together," participants visualized how environmental and political crises are woven into the lives of individuals and explored the possibilities of collective action to respond.
The program consisted of panel discussions, a DIY radio workshop, and music and sound art practices, combining in-person sessions at the MUU Art Center with online streaming via the Lumbung Radio platform to create an open space for participation and sharing. The event was free of charge and positioned as an attempt to connect cultural practices with social issues across disciplines.
